Earlier today I had the pleasure to be a guest on the lovely Tarah Dove's web radio podcast for UrbanDialogz.com. Before I jump into what we discussed, I want to tell you all a little about UrbanDialogz.com. This site was created by Tarah Dove, a sophomore at York University in Toronto, who wanted an outlet for students to reach out to other students and talk about important societal and personal issues. Also, one of the main goals of the site is to relate these topics in a laid-back, informal fashion to ensure the comfortability of the contributors and listeners. When I first found out about her site through a YouTube video she posted, I was instantly intrigued by her mission and decided to check out the site! Once there I suggested she do a discussion on Social Media and it's positive and negative effects on the youth and our generation. After suggesting the topic, she contact me and asked if I would like to be a guest on the show to discuss it more and of course I accepted :)
The overall message of our discussion was to advise the youth (and people using social media in general) to be conscious of what you post. Although social sites are used as an outlet to express one's thoughts and beliefs, it is important to keep a sense of professionalism in mind because you never know who may be looking at your sites. Also, sometimes the content we post may not be an appropriate representation of ourselves, so be mindful of what you post before sending it out into the world.
Of course I would love to go deeper into what we discussed, but you can click the screenshot above to hear for yourself! Make sure you drop by Tarah's site and tell her I sent ya! Also, let us know what your take on this discussion is!
